The term "azulejos" comes from the Arabic "al-zulaydi," meaning "polished small stone." These are ceramic tiles adorned with organic or geometric patterns that, when assembled, create a rhythm or a fresco in a single piece. Their designs reflect the artistic movements of the periods in which they were created.

In my studio, I have a ritual: coffee, incense, and flowers are necessary for me. It’s my sanctuary, but when I start a project, I become obsessed with it and its realization. A piece of wood, a type of wood, a piece of furniture, everything has meaning and allows me to reflect on my desires. I test, I try!! I also like involving my clients in my research to be sure I understand their needs.

Salone del Mobile is not merely an exhibition; it’s a global design summit that encapsulates the essence of creativity and craftsmanship. The 2024 edition emphasized “Sustainability and Innovation,” a theme that resonated throughout the event’s diverse pavilions. Designers, architects, and creatives from around the world converged to showcase cutting-edge furniture, innovative materials, and visionary concepts.

I love this magical atmosphere of creation, being in my studio, thinking about a concept, a mural, a canvas, starting from nothing and giving birth, it's addictive. I think art is the guarantor of good mental health. Painting is a necessity, a balance. Each canvas is a meditative journey.

Most of my inspiration comes from the curves you can see in nature around: a leaf, a cloud, a seaweed, waves etc. I can also be inspired by the body movements, dances, and facial curves. And of course wood: its veins, its color and natural shape. I sometimes try to understand what happened in the tree’s life: a storm, a heatwave. It is a great source of inspiration. Some wood varieties are amazing with very graphic veins like the plane tree.

In Melbourne, my professional career took a radical turn, allowing me to finally focus on my passion: design and nature. After several months of learning on the job, covering everything from horticulture to space planning within a landscape architecture studio, I crossed the ocean again to settle in Lisbon (my heart's city) and establish my own business: Janvier Plants & Design.
